Just returned from a two night weekend away in the Lakes with my wife, some 15 years + since we were both last here. Had an excellent time, room was very clean, food was excellent. The salmon on potato cakes with an egg on top was the best breakfast I have ever had in the world!

Thanks, to all of you...
...for your hospitality, Sue's plants and bird feeder (and referral to Francine's), Barry's guidance around the area, Julian's appreciation for Andy Worhol, Lisa's smile...and the enthusiasm of all of you for life, and your enjoyment of the worldwide folk who stay at St. Johns.
The walking beautiful trails around the lake and through the hills around Windermere and getting our rearview mirror whipped back on the narrowest lanes is what we'll remember longest. Most we'll carry the brief conversations we had with you and the dozens of folk from all over who were willing to share about their work, themselves, and their families.
God bless you,

This is THE place for food. Glad we found St John's Lodge. If you are coeliac like me you dont need to worry if you stay here. Wonderful choice. Barry you must work so hard to produce all those wonderful dishes every morning. It's no wonder the place is always so busy. Thank you for making life so much better for us Gluten Free people.

Hi Barry and Sue,
We didn't get chance to see you in person before we left yesterday but we just wanted to stay that we had a absolute wonderful time staying at your guest house. The service was excellent, the house was very nice and homely.
The breakfast everyday was beautiful, delicious, and appealed to everyone as you had such a variety of food on offer. The offerings in the room were a nice surprise with the fair trade products, and the bed was extremely comfy and cosy. We had full control over the heating which is also great. Your advice, views, and comments on where to eat and the local area were excellent and extremely helpful.
I would highly recommend anyone to stay at your guest house, and should we return to your area then we would definitely stay with you again.
Many thanks again and keep up the excellent work,
Adam (Bent) & Kim
Adam Bent,
Your web page is great the directions spot on. It is a plus point reading other peoples feed back before you decide on booking. We had a lovely stay, the room was very compact, the breakfast was very filling & did us until tea time. The family were very friendly. Thanks.

A great place to stay. Sue & Barry really looked after me. It was home from home. Appreciated the gluten free breakfasts and 'clean' air. Nice to stay in a place that doesn't smell of old ashtrays. Hope to see you again next year.

What a wondeful place to stay. We travelled through Wales, Scotland and Ireland but had the warmest welcome from Sue at SJL. Sue you are an Angel.
The room was clean and fresh with no trace of cigarette smoke - a must for us because my wife suffers from a smoke allergie.
The other real bonus was getting a peaceful nights sleep because there is restricted access to the building after 12.30 at night.
Keep up your high standards. People like us really appreciate it. By the way great web site. All the information we needed prior to booking was there in detail.

Thanks for a great weekend. One of the best guesthouses we've stayed in, and certainly the best breakfast! Where do you get that black pudding? We particularly liked the use of "Fair Trade" products in the tea-making facilities, and the blanket "no smoking" policy.
Hope to see you again.
