Environmentally friendly b&b uses solar panels & energy saving lightbulbs

This Windermere bed and breakfast has received a coveted CBEN gold award for the third year running for its eco friendly environmental management systems. It was the first environmentally friendly guest house in the English Lake District to receive such an award.

In order to save energy and reduce the environmental impact of this English Lake District Windermere guest house, solar panels and energy efficient gas boilers have been fitted. Further energy savings have been made by fitting low energy light fittings, energy saving light bulbs and dual flush toilets. Sue and Barry buy most of their produce for the b&b locally and recycle the majority of the guest house waste.

St John's Lodge bed and breakfast is also a bronze member of 'Nurture Lakeland' which encourages sustainable tourism by raising money to help with conservation projects within the Lake District National park. To date, with the help of guests, they have raised close to £1000.

As Sue Watts said "We are very fortunate to live in the English Lake District and in particular Windermere. We want to protect this wonderful heritage for future generations. Environmental issues are not just a philosophy at our Windermere b&b they are now a way of life".
